Eugene Celebration Announces Musical Lineup for 2010 Event
Organizers book several nationally known artists and 17 local favorites; Tickets go on sale July 8 at TicketsWest and other local outlets
July 6, 2010 - EUGENE, Ore.—Organizers of the Eugene Celebration have announced the event’s lineup of musicians for 2010. Scheduled to perform are 33 artists in a wide variety of musical genres, including blues, bluegrass, hip hop, jazz, Latin, reggae and rock. They will perform on four main stages in downtown Eugene Friday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 29. Featured artists include Eugene favorites Medium Troy and Ty Curtis as well as regional and national acts Blitzen Trapper, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Easy Star All-Stars, Helles Belles and Boy Eats Drum Machine.
Admission to the Celebration is $10 in advance and $15 at the gate for the three-day event; admission for Sunday only is $8 at the gate. Advance ticket sales begin July 8 at TicketsWest/Safeway locations and online at TicketsWest.com (service charge applies), the Hult Center box office and several downtown merchants including Lane Transit District Downtown Station, Harlequin Beads & Jewelry, Footwise and the University of Oregon Bookstore. In addition, Celebration tickets are available at Dutch Bros. Coffee locations in Eugene, where customers will receive a free cup of house coffee with ticket purchase.
The 28th annual Eugene Celebration is presented by Northwest Community Credit Union (NWCU). This year’s theme, “Raise the Roof,” reflects the start of the Celebration’s partnership with Habitat for Humanity and invites participants to celebrate the community by giving back and gettin’ down. The goal of the partnership is to raise $120,000 over three years to fund construction of two houses in Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity’s service area.
"Each year, our volunteer committee succeeds in overcoming budget constraints to provide a diverse and exciting schedule that we are very proud of," says Mike Hergenreter, Eugene Celebration entertainment committee chair. “With the help of our sponsors, Eugene Celebration offers real value for your entertainment dollar. Where else can you see dozens of talented bands for $10?”
The festival has four primary performance venues: The Broadway Stage at the corner of Broadway and Willamette Street in downtown Eugene; the Library Stage adjacent the Eugene Public Library at the northwest corner of Olive Street and 10th Avenue; the McDonald Theater Stage at 10th Avenue and Willamette Street; and the KLCC Stage on Olive Street just south of Eighth Avenue. Several other indoor venues will honor Celebration wristbands for admission for additional programming and performances throughout the weekend.
About the Eugene Celebration
The Eugene Celebration, the southern Willamette Valley’s largest and most celebrated civic event, includes the Celebration Parade, and indoor and outdoor performance stages in downtown Eugene. Stages are linked by street performers, food vendors, beverage gardens, a marketplace, a Community Causeway showcasing up to 100 nonprofit groups, an extensive KidZone area, Sustainability Village, the Pet Stroll, a film festival and much more. Downtown merchants and venues also participate in special promotions and indoor performances throughout the weekend. The event attracts an average of 20,000 participants a day.
The Eugene Celebration was created in 1983 by the City of Eugene to bring the community together for three days of music and fun. In 1998, Downtown Events Management, Inc. (DEMI) was launched to manage the Celebration. DEMI is registered with the State of Oregon as a domestic nonprofit corporation, managed by an all-volunteer board of directors. The Celebration is produced and funded through grants, business sponsorships, private contributions, admissions fees, in-kind donations and volunteer support.
For the third consecutive year, the Eugene Celebration will be produced by Kesey Enterprises Inc., owner and operator of the McDonald Theatre and manager and operator of the city of Eugene's Cuthbert Amphitheater.
