Eugene Celebration Announces Three-year Partnership with Habitat for Humanity and Presenting Sponsor Northwest Community Credit Union
Collaboration makes possible the construction of two houses in the Eugene-Springfield area; groundbreaking for first house set for July 31 in Springfield
June 1, 2020 - Eugene, Ore. — The Eugene Celebration is proud to announce a partnership with Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity and presenting sponsor Northwest Community Credit Union to fund the construction of two houses in the Eugene-Springfield community over the next three years. The first house will be built in Springfield's Meyer Estates with a groundbreaking event scheduled for Saturday, July 31.
The 28th annual Eugene Celebration, presented by Northwest Community Credit Union, will be held Friday, Aug. 27, through Sunday, Aug. 29. This year's theme, "Raise the Roof," reflects the start of its partnership with Habitat for Humanity and invites participants to celebrate the community by giving back and gettin' down.
The goal of the partnership is to raise $120,000 over three years to fund construction of two Habitat houses in Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity's service area. Major funding for this community-building partnership comes from Northwest Community Credit Union, presenting sponsor of the Eugene Celebration. The Celebration itself will dedicate a portion of paid admissions and up to 50 percent of cash sponsorships, for a contribution of up to $20,000 each year to the Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity affiliate. Additional cash and in-kind support is generously provided by Jerry's Home Improvement Center , a locally owned family business since 1961 with locations in Eugene and Springfield.
"This partnership is positive for everyone," says Eugene Celebration Board Chair Patricia Marshall. "Habitat for Humanity receives financial and volunteer support and greater community awareness, the Eugene Celebration gains additional support to ensure its longevity, and together we'll create shelter for our neighbors. We are extremely grateful to Northwest Community Credit Union for its support." Marshall adds that the Eugene Celebration board and Kesey Enterprises are also working on some new and dedicated Celebration programming to supply additional sources for these fund-raising and volunteer recruitment efforts.
"We feel blessed to join in this partnership and thrilled with the spirit of cooperation shown by Eugene Celebration, Northwest Community Credit Union, Jerry's Home Improvement Center, and the city of Springfield home grant program," says Don Griffin, executive director of Springfield/Eugene Habitat for Humanity.
The Eugene Celebration, the southern Willamette Valley's largest and most celebrated civic event, includes the Celebration Parade, and indoor and outdoor performance stages located in downtown Eugene. Stages are linked by street performers, food vendors, beverage gardens, a marketplace, a Community Causeway showcasing up to 100 non-profit groups, an extensive KidZone area, Sustainability Village, the Pet Stroll, a film festival and much more. Downtown merchants and venues also participate in special promotions and indoor performances throughout the weekend. The event attracts an average of 20,000 participants a day.
