March in the Parade!

The Eugene Celebration Parade represents the best of Eugene in all its diversity. Not without controversy, this irreverent collection of left- and right, alternative and traditional, new age and conservative never fails to delight, entertain, stimulate and provoke the dialogue and interactions that define our community. Ever on the edge of appropriately behaved, Celebration Parade participants are eager to share their own particular ideology for the enjoyment of the community and their fellow citizens. From the benign yet uncouth Slug and his Queen, to the outrageously anonymous Rickies, the community never fails to make a point during their annual salute to extended street closures.

A new, shorter route (1.2 miles) was designed in 2000 to alleviate the stress and fatigue experienced by most parade participants (especially the children and alter-abled). The new route also allows for better pacing and fewer dangerous gaps between groups. We are now able to focus and bring the audience closer to the downtown core and the festival itself, and save Police and Public Works time and effort in managing City traffic during the parade. Although significant audience patterns may be disrupted in certain areas, new traditions will soon emerge that will allow a majority of parade goers a more exciting, entertaining and SAFE parade!
